Satire to Me!

SATIRE TO ME

I believe that in today's society satire is just another form of expressing yourself and the views you may have on something. It provides a light-hearted way to address an issue, without directly insulting someone. Satire also forces people to think about the message that is being portrayed in that given piece of satire. I like how many different pieces of satire can be taken in different ways depending on how a given individual interprets what the artist or writer is trying to say. Satire could also be classified as comedy, because almost all the time pieces of satire will make one laugh. If satire is done correctly it will address an issue without being overly insulting. There are sometimes when I believe people take satire to far and it becomes just rude, which is not what satire is meant to do. As long as satires main goal is to address an issue and not just be rude, then I think it is a great thing.

Children's Book Satire

This illustration show satire in many ways. First off by the way Obama is portrayed with characterisitcs that are normally associated with african Americans. He has very large ears, a large nose and big lips that make it so you know he is african American. The artist of this illustration also makes fun of the fact that Obama is lying to the adults in America and just telling them what they want to hear. It is also infuring that Obama is now going to try and fool the children of America into thinking he is some great man. The child looks as though he is almost scared of Obama and his strange antics. This could make some poeple believe they should be scared of Obama and question his motivates behind his decisions. This is a perfect example of satire, because in reality it is satirizing multiple things but it a way that one would have to really think about in order to understand them all. This illustration is funny and does a good job at never dirextly saying Obama's name, but making it known that it is in fact him.
